Oriol Romeu’s stunning late strike sealed a third successive home win for Southampton with a 2-0 victory over Norwich City.

Saints dominated the game for large periods, finally getting their reward for a strong start with the opener on 36 minutes as Ché Adams bundled home.

With the game looking like it would end at 1-0 the ball fell to Romeu on the edge of the box, who volleyed home Saints’ second to fire his side to three points.

“It was very good,” said an honest Romeu post-game, “it’s probably my best goal I’ve ever scored. Even in training!”

“It’s hard to hit the ball that clean and it was so nice to see the ball flying in. I hit it with good power and I hit it with the laces, the ball stayed down and went in a good direction

“Today was tough because they were struggling a little bit and we’re on a good run, everyone was expecting us to do well and for it to be easy and it wasn’t easy.

“It’s always difficult to have 100% of control but I think we managed it quite well. In the second half they had some moments, a couple of counter attacks and a few set pieces, we had to defend well and we had to be solid.

“We managed through those periods and afterwards we had chances, we took a bit longer than we wanted to finish but we ended up winning.”
