Smallbone continues scoring streak in Ireland win

Will Smallbone made it three goals in two games as he helped Republic of Ireland Under-21s to a 3-1 win over Montenegro in Dublin.

Making it two wins in four days in UEFA Euro U21 qualifying, the Saints midfielder opened the scoring just before the break with a stunning strike from the edge of the box.

Perfectly positioned 18 yards out, the 22-year-old chested the ball down before rifling in a left-footed effort, continuing his impressive scoring form.

Moving up to second in Group F, further strikes from Liam Kerrigan and Tyreik Wright put the hosts in a commanding position, with Zaim Divanovic offering a consolation for the visitors.

Jim Crawford’s side will now look to finish off a successful run of games with a trip to group leaders Italy next Tuesday.
