James Ward-Prowse earned his 11th England cap as the Three Lions held reigning European champions Italy to a 0-0 draw at Molineux in the Nations League on Saturday.

In a repeat of last summer’s EURO 2020 final, the Saints skipper was named in the starting eleven by Gareth Southgate, completing the full 90 minutes.

Chelsea’s Mason Mount went closest to breaking the deadlock after hitting the crossbar, with Aaron Ramsdale keeping Italy at bay at the other end.

The result means England sit bottom of Group 3, still searching for a first win heading into Tuesday’s clash with Hungary, in which Ward-Prowse will hope sign off for the summer with a 12th cap.

Elsewhere, Jan Bednarek endured a night of mixed emotions as Poland drew 2-2 with the Netherlands in Rotterdam.

Claiming a two-goal lead thanks to goals from Matty Cash and Piotr Zieliński, the visitors were pegged back by Davy Klaassen and Denzel Dumfries to force a share of the spoils in Group 4.

Completing a night of Nations League action, Ché Adams and Stuart Armstrong suffered a difficult outing in Dublin as Scotland lost 3-0 to the Republic of Ireland.

Former Saints striker Michael Obafemi added the third after strikes from Alan Browne and Troy Parrott, with Adams and Armstrong completing 59 and 30 minutes respectively.
